Friday Session

Just got into the office, preparing for Tax Policy at 9 and Session at 10.

Here is a copy of the agenda for my committee meeting:

Agenda:
HR 150-(Barnett)-A resolution to memorialize the Congress of the United States to enact legislation prohibiting states with levels of unemployment that exceed the national average from being donor states.

OR ANY OTHER BUSINESS PROPERLY BEFORE THIS COMMITTEE

I'll keep you posted with any updates.

Pete

  1. House Resolution 150 typifies the shallow thinking that underlies the Democrat's ideas and policies not only in Lansing but also Washington DC. Apparently they think that with a stroke of the pen in DC, enough money will be forced Michigan's way to erase our net donor status.

The truth is that high personal incomes are the reason a state is a "donor". Therefore, the Dems have two ways to solve our net donor "problem":
    1) send another meaningless resolution asking Congress to eliminate the progressive Federal income tax structure which exaggerates the net donor "problem" (fat chance of that ever happening)
    2) keep on avoiding making the hard choices and restructuring that are necessary to bring state spending in line with revenues - and keep future spending increases in line with the state growth in personal income. As long as Michigan government remains in its slow-motion death spiral, the high incomes of those state residents still working will continue to fall and the net donor "problem" will go away.
